You may be more familiar with the Rod Stewart or god forbid Sheryl Crow versions, but Cat Stevens wrote “The First Cut Is the Deepest” and released his version in 1967. It wasn’t actually the first released verson of the song as P.P. Arnold released a version in May of 1967, a few months before Cat Stevens recorded his version.
