Releeased in 1983, “Rockit” was many people’s first introduction to DJ scratching and turntablism. It won a Grammy for Best R&B Instrumental Performance and 5 MTV Video Music Awards. “Rockit” inspired many turntablists including DJ Qbert and Mix Master Mike.
Mix Master Mike became the first turntablist to perform at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts for The Kennedy Center Honors and performed “Rockit” in Herbie Hancock’s honor in 2013.
