My dad was the first person I knew who owned a CD player. I remember shopping with him and my brother to pick out which model and features he wanted to get. This was pretty early in the life of CDs and the tail end of what little relevancy the LaserDisc had. Some CD players were single CD players, some had 6 disc cartridges that you could load and swap out. Some had 5 discs on a rotating platter and some featured LaserDiscs as well. I believe in the end, he went with an Onkyo 5 disc platter style changer.
After he purchased the player, he told my brother and I that we could pick out a CD and he’d buy it for us. We picked Heartbreak Station by Cinderella featuring their anti-censorship denouncement, “Shelter Me”.
