If you’re anything like me, you’ve heard this song a billion times sampled in hip hop, in car commercials, and other places, but you only learned the origin of the sound when you were listening to all the albums in 1,001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die.
Originally started as a project to supplement a B-movie soundtrack, Incredible Bongo Band released their first album Bongo Rock in 1973. “Apache” was relatively obscure until early played by hip-hop DJ’s. It has subsequently become a backbone of countless hip-hop and dance tracks.
