#3 - Ghosts In My Guitar - Billy Idol

Every year for the National Cherry Festival, Traverse City has a concert series. The beer tent for the Cherry Festival is such that from the beer tent, you can hear the concerts and see the jumbotron. A few years ago Billy Idol performed, and we (My wife, my brother, his wife and myself) had a few beverages and listened and watched part of the concert. It was not great.

As I mentioned yesterday’s post, I recently saw Bryan Adams and Billy Idol perform together at Pine Knob in Clarkston. Having witnessed the debacle that was Billy Idol in Traverse City, I was not coming into the concert with high expectations as far as Billy Idol’s performance. But I was wrong. He was great.

He played the hits, he seemed to have his shit together and Steve Stevens, his guitarist, was outstanding. Steve Stevens had great interludes between songs and would keep things moving along while Billy was briefly off stage for his numerous wardrobe changes.

While introducing this song, Billy Idol talked about his father and recounted his passing from cancer. he said that his dad was listening to this song when he passed. While Billy and the band performed this song, in the background there was a photo slideshow of young Billy Idol and his dad and his family. I wasn’t expecting a Billy Idol concert to tug on the ol’ heartstrings, but there we were.

Anyway, enjoy this song.
