#6 - Hey Jealousy - Gin Blossoms

Gin Blossoms released New Miserable Experience in 1992. Eventually it rose to multi-platinum status. Most people are familiar with the song due to it’s continued radio play. What many don’t know is that prior to releasing New Miserable Experience, Gin Blossoms had recorded an independent album entitled Dusted and an EP entitled Up and Crumbling. Many of the songs from New Miserable Experience were re-recordings of earlier songs. Listen to the Dusted version of this song for a faster, more raw sound. It is well worth a listen if you are a fan.

I have had the opportunity to see the Gin Blossoms twice in concert. Once in 2004, at Pine Knob in Clarkston with Seven Mary Three and more recently opening for Train in 2014 at Soaring Eagle Casino. As of 2019, thy are still touring. If you have a chance, catch a show.

Sadly, Doug Hopkins, the man who wrote Hey Jealousy took his own life shortly after the release of New Miserable Experience after a history of problems with alcohol.

As far as I’m concerned, Hey Jealousy is one of the greatest love songs ever written. At the very least, it’s one of the most brutally honest.
