#9 - Buffalo Soldier - Bob Marley and the Wailers

When I was about 6, my uncle gave me a copy of Confrontation on cassette tape because I liked his Bob Marley Legend tape. Unfortunately I got upset when I realized that the version of Buffalo Soldier on the tape was different from the version I liked on his Legend Tape. Legend featured new mixes of Buffalo Soldier and a few other tracks. So my uncle took back the Confrontation tape and gave me his copy of Legend instead.

That’s how Bob Marley Legend became the first “adult” cassette tape I ever owned. It was an upgrade from the Mickey Mouse Splashdance.

When Legend was released on CD, it included the original version from Confrontation and not the 1984 remix. In college, disappointed that I couldn’t find the 1984 remixed version of Buffalo Soldier on CD, a friend of mine helped me record my cassette tape into an mp3. Eventually, a 2 disc “Deluxe” version of Legend was released that included both the original version of Buffalo Soldier and the 1984 remix.
