#28 - Kick Out the Jams - MC5

MC5’s debut album, Kick Out the Jams, was recorded live in Detroit on Devil’s Night and Halloween in 1968. Released to mixed reviews, it eventually rose in popularity to be included at #294 of Rolling Stone’s “500 Greatest Albums of All Time”.

The album caused controversy upon release due to this track’s opening lines. Hudson’s, a large department store at the time refused to carry it. MC5 took out an ad with just a picture of the lead singer and the words “Fuck Hudson’s”. Hudson’s retaliated by refusing to carry any of Elektra’s (MC5’s label) albums. This led to Elektra dropping MC5.

And right now…

Right now…

Right now, it’s time to…

Kick out the jams, motherfuckers!
